Fighter, the action thriller starring Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone, witnessed a slight drop in its box office collection on day 3. The film, which released on January 25, 2024, on the occasion of Republic Day, earned ₹28 crore on Saturday, taking its total domestic collection to ₹90 crore, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh[^1^][1]. The film is expected to cross the ₹100 crore mark soon, as it continues to receive positive reviews from critics and audiences alike.
Fighter, directed by Siddharth Anand, is India's first aerial action film, inspired by the real-life events of the 2019 Balakot airstrike. The film features Hrithik Roshan as Squadron Leader Shamsher Pathania, aka Patty, and Deepika Padukone as Squadron Leader Minal Rathore, aka Mini, who are part of a covert operation to eliminate a terrorist threat. The film also stars Anil Kapoor as Group Captain Rakesh Jai Singh, Karan Singh Grover as Sartaj Gill, and Akshay Oberoi as Basheer Khan.
The film has received praise for its spectacular action sequences, stunning visuals, and patriotic theme. The chemistry between Hrithik and Deepika, who are sharing screen space for the first time, has also been appreciated by the fans. The film's music, composed by Vishal-Shekhar, has also added to its appeal, with songs like 'Jai Hind', 'Fighter Anthem', and 'Dil Ki Baat' becoming chartbusters.
Fighter has also performed well in the overseas markets, grossing approximately ₹145 crore in three days, according to Koimoi. The film has been released in around 4250 screens across India, and in several countries, including the US, UK, UAE, Australia, and Canada. The film is expected to witness a jump in its collection on Sunday, as it enjoys a four-day extended weekend.
Fighter is jointly produced by Viacom18 Studios and Marflix Pictures. The film marks the third collaboration between Hrithik and Siddharth, after Bang Bang (2014) and War (2019). The film is also the first installment of a planned franchise, with a sequel already in the works.
